Titan 2100 stands on public planetary data, open-source tools and the published papers cited on each explainer. This page lists them and says where a licence is still unsettled.
The full register, with the treatment and rights of every dataset, lives in the project repository (docs/source-register.md). This page is the reader's version.
Planetary data
- Orbits and constants. State vectors for the Sun, Earth and the Saturnian moons on 1 July 2100 come from NASA JPL Horizons. Radii and gravitational parameters come from the NAIF planetary constants kernel and the JPL satellite physical parameters. Public domain.
- Titan's surface. The globe uses the USGS Cassini ISS global mosaic (PIA19658, infrared, 938 nm). Relief and coastlines come from the Cassini radar mosaics by Birch and Hayes, the Corlies and Hayes topography models, and the USGS Cassini SAR-HiSAR mosaic. Sea depths at Moray Sinus come from the T104 altimetry published by Poggiali and colleagues in 2020. Huygens measured the surface pressure and temperature (Fulchignoni and colleagues, Nature, 2005).
- Enceladus. The globe and terrain use the USGS Cassini global DEM and mosaic by Paul Schenk and William McKinnon (Icarus, 2024).
- The other moons. Maps for Mimas, Tethys, Dione, Rhea and Iapetus come from NASA Photojournal and USGS Astropedia mosaics by the Cassini imaging team and Thomas Roatsch and colleagues. The small moons use the shape models from the PDS Small Bodies Node.
- Names. Feature names follow the USGS Gazetteer of Planetary Nomenclature (IAU). Nothing about the Kraken Shore settlement, its buildings or its people is real.
Radar and infrared images are shown in false colour or greyscale, and the experience labels them as not visible light.
Software
- three.js draws the scenes (WebGPU with a WebGL2 fallback). Vite builds the app.
- Blender builds every model from scripts that read the project's number files. Models ship as standard glTF 2.0 with meshopt compression.
- marked renders this site's pages from Markdown. The site generator is a small Node script that lives with the app.
Sound and music
Sound effects and music are generated locally with open-licence models, and the sounds currently in the experience are temporary placeholders that no listener has approved.
- Sound effects. Woosh by Sony AI. Its weights are released under CC BY-NC, so the effects are credited here.
- Music. ACE-Step 1.5, released under the MIT licence for both code and weights.
People and models
The residents and crew in the experience are built from the CC0 MakeHuman asset packs through Concordia 2045's character pipeline. Vehicle and building models are original work built from the project's own numbers.
Images
- Planets. Saturn's globe and ring strip are stand-ins from a community collection for the Celestia simulator. Their licence is not yet confirmed, and they will be replaced or credited once it is.
- AI-generated references. A few reference images for the visual design were made with the Krea 2 Turbo model. They guided the look and are not shown as art on this site.
- Photographs and stills on this site are captures from the experience itself, rendered from the sources above.
